Gate Gourmet May Be Shortchanging Its Workers

Flying can be a hassle, but at least there are usually tasty and nutritious snacks and meals available (not too mention a soothing cocktail or beer). What most travelers do not realize is how much time and effort goes into preparing those meals and stocking the airplane refrigerators. In fact, it is the hardworking employees at Gate Gourmet that keep flyers well supplied with food and drink.

Unfortunately, Gate Gourmet may be treating these industrious employees unfairly. Some Gate Gourmet employees complain that are forced to work more than 40 hours per week without receiving adequate overtime wages. They also complain about Gate Gourmet’s “flex-time” policy, which is supposed to compensate for extra work hours. However, employees allege that the compensatory “flex-time” expires quickly and many flex hours are lost. Employees also complain about being made to skip meal and rest breaks.
